I know it’s been a while since my last blog, but this one is worth the wait! I just got back from the annual conference of the National Association of Professional Organizers. Not only do they offer continuing education so I can hone up my organizing skills, but they also have to biggest and best expo of the latest and greatest organizing products in the industry.
Although I don’t consider myself someone who pushes products on my clients, there are some I will recommend depending on the client’s personality, habits, and the situation in general. Here are a few that I am excited about sharing….
Grid-It, by Cocoon:

I was lucky enough to get a free sample of this and am excited to use it! My idea of the best use for Grid-It is to secure all of the little items you keep in your backpack, briefcase, or computer bag. Items such as your phone, business cards, pens/pencils, a calculator, USB memory stick, white out and highlighters fit neatly and securely to it so you can easily locate the items when you need them. Rather than searching for a pen or business card, you just pull the Grid-It Organizer out of your bag and everything is attached. It’s also great for school-aged kids and their backpacks. I’m sure it would fit nicely in their lockers too. They even have a 3-ring binder version! It comes in black, blue and red, and several different sizes you can see in the picture. Although the picture is nice and gives you an idea of how to use this product, for the life of me I can’t figure out why you’d want to use one to organize your gum. Who carries around that much gum with them??
Next up, something near and dear to my heart. These two products are great for performing a quick-sort of the mail or other papers that you need to get off the counter or your desk, but don’t have time to follow-up on them.
The first is the Secure Expanding File created by Smead:

I have always loved, and advocated the use of, expanding/accordion files. However, many of them look like large folders whose covers won’t stay open while you’re trying to file, and that won’t stand up on their own. I often see those types of accordion files tucked away in a closet, never to be used again. This file, however, will stand on its own and remain cover-free while for ease of filing.
For those of you who may want a more decorative product or who want to create just a few files with a bit more room, check out this awesome beauty from Office Candy:

This tote comes in six fabulous colors and is something you won’t mind guests seeing on your kitchen counter or in the living room. Keep it wherever you sort through your mail or want to keep your To Do items.
If you have any questions on what you’ve seen in this blog or want to know more about how to use these products, give us a call at 203-273-8583.
More of my favorite products will be highlighted in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!
